Newton’s Third Law of Motion Essay

Introduction – The understanding of the physical sciences and the law governing it is not complete without the understanding of the different physical laws provided by Isaac Newton, whose contribution to the field of science is very important and crucial in the development of the human understanding of the physical forces governing the way of life. Newton’s Third Law of Motion – Newton’s Third Law of Motion is a part of Newton’s three different laws of motion which are interrelated with each other. In the third law of motion, Newton posits that everything that exerts effort or force against something is also the recipient of an equal amount of force being exerted by the object to which the initial force was being applied to. Newton has a Latin translation, as well as the lengthy version of the third law of motion, which can be very confusing and very difficult to understand. Browne simplified it a it b explaining the third law of motion in this context: â€Å"If body A pulls or pushes on body B, then body B also pulls or pushes on body A. The force on each body has the same magnitude, but the forces are oppositely directed† (Browne, p. 58). Why Newton’s Third Law is important to the ascent of science – Newton is one of the highly respected and veneered scientists of all time because of his contribution to the society and to the field of science in particular. Because of his pioneering thoughts like the different laws of motion, other aspects involved in the physical sciences were allowed to flourish and many other scientists are more mentally equipped to tackle more scientific queries which previously cannot be explored because of the absence of the understanding of man in the laws of motion and other important physical laws that Newton helped develop (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 2006). Newton’s Third Law of Motion, which posits the idea of the presence of an equal yet opposite force directed to the exerted force, provided an important groundwork for some important breakthroughs and discoveries involving the physical sciences; the third law of motion of Newton was important in the formulation of the law about the conservation of momentum; ideas like the propulsion of rockets and how they exert effort against the void in space, the action-reaction from the recoiling effect a gun manifests when firing and pushing out the bullet towards a certain direction, the line of thinking in sports science and other aspects of training, rehabilitation and performance enhancement with the use of the idea of the exertion of force and the presence of the action-reaction forces (Gibilisco, p. 188). How the third Law relates to the First and Second Laws – The third law of Motion of Newton relates to the first and second laws through the state of being in motion or being at rest depending on the current state of an object and how another intervening force or object affects both the state of the first object and the second object. Using two tennis balls to illustrate the three different laws of motion of Newton and how they are related to each other by each becoming a momentary experience before undergoing the next stage or a change in the state of motion or non-movement, it can be deduced that the third law of Newton’s Law of Motion will have each of the two tennis balls when rolled towards each other using the same speed, moving and covering the same distance and meeting in the middle exerting the same amount of effort or force as that which is given by the opposite ball. The two balls’ current stage experiencing the third law of motion originated from another stage wherein the two balls are undergoing one of the two other laws of motion; they may have been, prior to the collision resulting to the illustration of the third law of motion, manifesting the idea of the first law of motion, which states that both of the objects remain in their current state of motion or stillness until / unless an intervening force prompted them to change the nature of their movement or stillness. The two tennis balls may have been both at rest until a hand or an object put them in motion, wherein with equal variables applied to each tennis ball resulting in the illustration of the third law of motion. The second law of motion is related to the third law because it discusses the use of force used to intervene upon objects at rest, prompting them to move and the force of the moving object is proportional to the force applied to it that prompted it to move (Browne, p. 60). Conclusion – The laws of motion that Newton espoused was as much applauded by the scientific community during his time, and even way past his time, as it was criticized heavily by some of his contemporaries in the scientific circle, yet, despite what had transpired, the laws of motion of Newton remains to be one of the important pillars in the understanding of physical laws governing everything. Newton was a genius and his contribution to the society, like the ideas leading and originating from the laws of motion, is something that has indeed greatly affected the way human life was shaped over time. My Identity

Human identification comprises several aspects in life that clearly defines who he or she is and distinguishes him from the rest of other human beings. Individuals may be defined through their characters, personality and the physical appearance. In identifying someone, the first descriptive aspects are the physical appearance. Identity can also be related on how one looks like, or the resemblance of the individual in comparison to another human being. My identity may differ from the identity of my colleague but to some extent some factors in my definition may resemble that of my colleague. The most distinguishing part is gender. Irrespective of the exceptions, dwelling on the assumptions, one can only be either a man or a woman. This of course is the most outstanding grouping when it comes to identifying people. In my case, I resemble other men because I am a man. This sounds awkward but male is a male in the sense hat he has male features as opposed to female features, still on physical appearance, I do resemble several people when it comes to the height and the size of my body. Being a tall person, my height can be compared with several people and through comparative method I find that I do resemble majority of tall individuals. In identifying myself I have to clearly understand who I am and how I look like and in most cases I find that I have to compare myself with another individual or sometimes several individuals. After considering my physical appearance I clearly analyzed myself and either through assumption or fabrication, I find that the physical features can be compared with another person. This therefore leads to a temporal conclusion that one resembles another person in one way or another. Personality is defined by the characters of a person and the way of handling matters. Through the way someone behaves and considering a collective form of behaviors it is therefore possible to identify someone and in most cases it’s concluded that this person behaves like the other who exhibits the same behavior. Being an attentive person and slow in reacting to suspicious issues I was able to identify another individual who have the same qualities or behavior which I consider to be similar to mine. In that way I can make a partial conclusion that personality actually defines who a person is and it can only be understood clearly when related to the person’s characteristics. Several factors contribute to the shaping of one’s personality. From the scientific point of view, genetic heredity has featured a lot in determining the characters through genes manipulation which is explained better in scientific research. The defined characters will then be possessed throughout the development of a human being. Behaviors are acquired through continuous repetition of actions which can also contribute to the characteristics. Naturally, it is difficult to find normal human beings with exactly similar personality but it has been found that sometimes people can have several characteristics which resemble. In such a case it’s concluded that one individual resembles the other characteristics but it’s not said that one person has turned to be another identity. In my consideration it’s difficult to find a person who has a personality resembling mine, but in actual sense I find that it would be possible to consider several individuals who would each have one or several characteristic that resembles mine. Cultural background is another area which influences the personality and the behavior of a person. It is always considered that culture is a major contributing factor in the growth of a human being. Through cultural background developing children have a lot of lessons to learn. It is easy for individuals to be defined who they are depending on their cultural background. An individual who has spent the whole of his/her life in a busy city and urban centers can easily be distinguished from the person living in a less developed area. In this context it can be argued that society under which we live has also a part to play in person identity in the sense that people tend to influence one another in different aspects in the society which develops the social behaviors depending on the kind of society one is involved in. Now considering all the aspects that uniquely defines and identifies a person it’s clear and possible for one to identify himself or herself in different ways. In my case I have different personalities. I have mostly derived this from the different situations and circumstances in which I find myself in. during the good moments I have the capability of having a good relationship with my friends especially when we are involved in common activities and goals. In such situations I am calm and ready to listen to their contributions. I sometimes find myself going an extra mile to ensure that I satisfy them. Emotionally, in such circumstances I accommodate and tolerate their behavior unconditionally with the understanding of the meaning of morals and virtues in life. All this characters combined with my psychological reasoning I can clearly identify myself as a reliable and considerate person. This I considered to be a piece of my personality or self. Alternatively during the unhappy or sad moments, I do consider myself as a different person following the way I react to the situation. It’s in such circumstances that I can clearly understand that someone can virtually exist in more than one personality According to (Abramson, L. & Teasdale, J. 1978) Personality and human behavior has a relationship in that human behavior contributes to the characteristic that defines the personality depending on the different situations. That means through the influence of the circumstances personality might change. I consider this one since I realize the other personality I have is during my sad moment. Whether naturally or not during such situation I find that my character is totally different which I feel psychological a changed person. I believe that in such circumstances it is easy for other people to realize and see a different person other than they know. My change of behavior makes me feel that I have another self. for example, in such situations I feel that I want to stay alone and I find myself avoiding the company of my partners my emotions goes down and I feel psychological dizziness which end up rendering me inactive. Difficult in solving simple problems is common and the feelings of demotivation occupy my brain. Sometimes I would find myself being physically affected and loss of appetite is also very common. The approach towards my duties would also be fully affected and the learning becomes a bother. During this time I avoid a lot of activities since it would be easy to mess up. In particular, I would find myself criticizing and concentrating on my failures. In combining all these drastic character change I find that this is totally different person in me. I believe that each and every individual has a conclusive analysis he or she makes in realization that it’s impossible to identify yourself as the same identity throughout. A perfect world

Can you imagine a perfect world, a world where you had everything you wanted, no matter where you were or when it was? What would your world be like? Would your world be the same as it is now or would you change it in any way possible and create a completely different place? Well if I had to choose I would make my flawless world like it was in the essay Walden by Henry David Thoreau or even like it was in the speech â€Å"I Have a dream† by Martin Luther King Jr. In the essay Walden by Henry David Thoreau, Thoreau completely isolates himself from society and goes his own way. In my perfect world society wouldn’t be judgmental and rude and completely careless of how others felt or reacted to certain things. People will be able to walk down a street or even a hallway without getting bad looks or gestures or having to hear whispers about themselves behind their backs. People would be able to do what they want without getting judged or given bad motions or signals or even nods. People should be able to see others the way others see themselves. Nobody wants to be judged or talked about so why should they have to. In the speech â€Å"I Have a Dream â€Å"by Martin Luther King Jr. he stands up for not only himself but also all the African Americas of the world. He wanted to make sure everyone was treated equally. So in my impeccable world there would not only be no racial tension or segregation but also no discrimination of any sort and there would be peace between all no matter what race or background the person had or has. All people were created the same way why can’t they be treated the same way. Why does a person’s race, religion, background or even culture have to determine the way a person is treated? Or the rights they have been given. Why does it have to change when the person didn’t? So in my world everyone would be treated equally and no one would be judged because of their race, religion, background , or culture. Both these writings consist of the moral of standing up for yourself. Although they both also contain two different morals that are both needed in all areas of the world. Both morals that I would in want to have in a perfect world. These two morals are acceptance from society and equality between all people around the world. In conclusion, a perfect world for me would not only contain parts from the essay, Walden or the speech â€Å"I Have a Dream†. It would be a combination of both creations. Stories about miracles Essay Stories about miracles are an obstacle to faith for modern people. Discuss. The whole concept of miracles is rooted in the fantastical, improbable and downright outrageous. So its not particularly hard to see why modern, enlightened people might consider them an obstacle to faith. However, stories about miracles are part of religious lore; so if they are an obstacle, theyre certainly not insurmountable. Indeed, for some they can be said to enhance the idea of a loving, divine God. But exactly how loving can a God that is so indifferent to the suffering of those he doesnt deem worthy of his miracles be? A willingness to believe in Gods benevolence must be present in order to ignore the unfair nature of miracles, and in these literate, informed times, it proves incredibly difficult to have such faith. An important religious perspective on miracles is that of St Thomas Aquinas. Aquinas believed that God can manipulate creation in any way he/she desires. His definition of miracles is those things done by divine power apart from the order usually followed in things. This idea is useful for those inclined towards faith because it encompasses a vast spectrum of events, ranging from a spontaneous apparition of someone dead to an unlikely, but possible occurrence such as a fast recovery from a curable ailment. But this definition of miracles presents some problems. For example, John Macquarie argues that because interpretation of supposedly miraculous events varies, it is nonsensical to ascribe religious meaning to acts that are quite possibly random and lucky. How are we to distinguish between coincidence and an act of God? Surely God cant be responsible for every last one of the unlikely fortuitous events that happen in the world? The Bible appears to fail to provide any answers- it si mply asserts that God exists and his miracles occurred, evidence be damned. In spite of this, the miracles in the Bible can be said to support faith for modern people, as they demonstrate the power and benevolence of God. A prominent example would be Isaiah 38:8, when God stops the Sun for King Hezekiahs benefit. Another would be when Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. Miracles such as these can evoke powerful religious feeling. The implausible nature of these acts, however, makes them a very real roadblock on the path to faith for many discerning, intelligent people. Rudolf Bultmann addressed this by attempting to demythologise Christ. By doing this, he thought he could both enable faith for modern people while allowing them to maintain their suspension of disbelief. He offered rational explanations for the miracles of Christ; for example, when Jesus fed the 5000, there may have been a concealed cave behind him, or he may have simply inspired the others around him to share. This approach is better than the literal interpretation of Biblical miracles because it offers a logical, contemporary solution for Jesus supposedly divine acts whilst maintaining their essential goodness. But it can also be said that by demythologising Christ you take away the power of his sacrifice- his divinity is integral to Christianity. David Hume provides a less liberal definition of the miraculous. He limits miracles to a transgression of a law of natureby a particular volition of the deity. This essentially means that nothing that happens within nature should be labelled miraculous. Hume does not outright reject miracles, but he instead uses the fact that they are impossible to prove to support his criticism. If we are to adhere to Humes staunchly rationalistic stance, concluding that miracles are an obstacle to faith would be inevitable, as there is no evidence for them.
